Make Sure to Have Your Roof Inspected After a Major Storm

Whenever your home experiences a powerful storm, your roof might become damaged as a result. When your roof becomes damaged, you will need to act quickly so that the damage doesn't become more expensive to repair. However, it can be difficult to know to repair your roof if you don't have your roof inspected shortly after a severe storm.

Hail Damage to Your Roof

The two most common types of weather phenomena that can damage your roof are hail and wind. When the hail becomes large enough, it can start to cause damage to your roof. Also, the longer that hail falls on your roof, the more damage that will be done to it.

Roof Resistance to Hail

Whether or not your roof will become damaged as a result of the hail depends partially on the type of materials that the roof is made out of. For example, metal roofs can resist hail more effectively. However, if the hail is very large it will still probably damage your roof.

Wind Damage to Your Roof

Wind can cause damage to your roof by blowing some shingles off. This can lead to gaps in your roof that can allow for moisture to seep through. Any amount of damage can cause more water damage than you might expect. Differences in air pressure can also cause damage to your roof and can even blow it off in some cases.

Don't Ignore Roof Damage

It's easy to make the mistake of assuming that your roof is not very damaged. You might see small holes or a few missing shingles. Even damage that might seem minor can lead to your roof leaking if the problem is not dealt with.

File an Insurance Claim

You may be able to file a homeowner's insurance claim after your roof has become damaged. Then, you will be able to hire a roofing contractor who can come and perform the necessary repairs so that the damage does not become worse.

Repairs Will Protect Your Roof in the Future

Having your roof repaired will also make it less susceptible to storm damage in the future. When the shingles are damaged, they are more likely to be blown off by strong winds. You might notice curling edges on your shingles or they might be missing granules. If this is the case, you might need to hire a roofing contractor to repair your roof to minimize your expenses in the long run.
